A Traveling Jewish Theatre's
Jewish Culture Salon Wednesday Nights November 1998 - June 1999 (Go right to Schedules) Jewish Music Series A vibrant and popular series returns for its second season in an expanded format. From klezmer avant-garde jazz to to East-West fusion, this series features some of the foremost innovators of new Jewish music.
Jewish Literature Series:
Worlds Within Words Poetry and short fiction from the classics to the cutting-edge read by writers and actors (including ATJT ensemble members). The short story has been a favorite form of Jewish writers from Sholem Aleichem to Grace Paley. We're presenting three evenings of Jewish short stories read by ATJT ensemble members and other Bay Area actors. Selections will range from classics such as "The Magic Barrel" by Bernard Malamud to works by emerging Jewish writers Nessa Rapoport and Robin Hemley. Our three poetry evenings will feature nine Bay Area poets who use, to varying degrees, material of their Jewish identity to examine fundamental human concerns. We expect to hear an enormous variety of of subject, form and style from poets as diverse as Alan Kaufman, founder of the controversial Jewish magazine, Davka (not to be confused with the musical ensemble of the same name) and Chana Bloch, an award-winning poet who is often published in The New Yorker.
